"The plea for unity is not a call for uniformity. There must always be a healthy debate."

This article angers me. Whatever happened to healthy debate? Dissent is unthinkable to the current administration, right down to each and every town meeting and press event....

Got to love Dan Froomkin for pulling aside the curtain...Sorry, Wizard.

I understand your frustration, and I appreciate your being patient enough to engage me in (short) conversations about these topics during the work day. Rather than bothering you tomorrow morning before you have your 18 shots of hazelnut and two ounces of coffee, I'll post tonight--

As the incumbent President, Bush's campaign events have the appearance of being Administration events, but they're frequently not. Rather than lumping the scripted "Ask the President" events in with your critiques of the Administration (I'll give you one-- the lack of press conferences) I think it's fairer to critique the President's campaign activities separately.

But why get all riled up about this anyway? The press is shining the light on it, and as much as it might bolster your anti-Ashcroft prejudices, no jack-booted thugs are going to send you to Camp X-Ray tonight for writing a critical blog entry. Why get all pissed off?

Maybe because as smart and accomplished as Kerry is, as smoothly as the Democrat convention went, as rough as the situation in Iraq is these days, Bush is still neck and neck with Kerry and we haven't even had the GOP convention yet.

Don't be a hater. Hate the fact that the American people are getting a chance to hear both sides and approximately 48-52 percent of the people whose votes will be counted (yeah, I said the people whose votes will be counted) are going to turn their backs on Kerry.
